  During time with the laptops, students were given a sheet created by me. They were to visit the listed websites to find information about the author of Loser, Jerry Spinelli, to answer the questions provided.
  
• PowerPoint Presentation Sample 1
  PowerPoint Presentation Sample 2
  Before beginning this presentation, the students worked in their groups to brainstorm adjectives or phrases to describe the main character of the book, Donald Zinkoff. Then, students followed directions from me to begin creating a PowerPoint presentation mapping Zinkoff's character. I required the students to have 6 pages total including a title slide and 5 slides that included an adjective or phrase as the title of each, a written example of how/why it describes Zinkoff, and an appropriate clip art. If students finished these requirements, they were able to add animations, sound, and other special effects.

  The students used Kidspiration on their laptops to create a webbed timeline with visuals to illustrate the main events of the main character's life by grade level.

  After reading the book, I prompted students to consider what the movie based on this book might be like, since there is not one made yet. The students used Word to make posters advertising the movie. They used text boxes, clip art, word art, and other formatting to create the posters. I urged them to include a quote from a classmate or other source.

  Student responses to three things they like about or learned reading Loser, and one thing they would have liked to learn or do.
