Listed below are the classes offered at Wayne State for the Middle Level Endorsement. Whenever possible, sections should be chosen with a middle level (Grades 5-9) emphasis. The headings in italics are the areas of Middle Level Education. [Courses or field experiences previously taken may be waived with the permission of your MLE advisor.]

Required Courses:

Nature and Needs of Early Adolescents

Young Adolescent Development in the School Context
CED 6700 2 cr. The Role of the Teacher in Guidance
Philosophy & School Organization
TED 5250 3 cr. Teaching the Emerging Adolescent (Offered only in the Fall of even numbered years)

ELE 3320 3 Cr. Teaching Reading: Emergent Literacy

You are to choose two (2) methods classes from two (2) different teaching areas with the approval of the MLE Coordinator. For example; you may choose science and social studies, not biology and chemistry.

Field Experience: (credit does not count towards endorsement)

Student Teaching or on-the-job- teaching in grades 6-8
