Classes for Middle Level Specialization 
Middle Level Specialization requires a minimum of 20 semester hours of course work plus a field experience in grades 6-8.  Listed below are the classes offered at Wayne State for the specialization. Whenever possible, sections should be chosen with a middle level (Grades 5-9) emphasis. The headings in italics are the areas of Middle Level Education.

Required Courses:

Nature and Needs of Early Adolescents

EDP 5480 3 cr. Adolescent Psychology
Young Adolescent Development in the School Context
CED 6700 2 cr. The Role of the Teacher in Guidance
Philosophy & School Organization
TED 5250 3 cr. Teaching the Emerging Adolescent (Offered only in the Fall Semester)
Curriculum, Pedagogy & Assessment
  TED 3550, TED 5150 or TED 5160 3 Cr. (min.) while pre-student or student teaching in grades 6-8
Collaboration
ELE 6070 3 cr. Family, Community & School Partnerships
Teaching Fields and Pedagogy: (choose 2 for a min. of 6 cr.)
You are to choose two (2) methods classes from two (2) different teaching areas with the approval of the MLE Coordinator.  For example; you may choose science and social studies, not biology and chemistry


Field Experience: (credit does not count towards endorsement)
