Teaching the Emerging Adolescent in the Middle Level (TED 5250) offers opportunities to examine best practices, curriculum and strategies of middle level education. This course also includes an introduction to the nature of the early adolescent and how they develop in a school setting, interdisciplinary unit planning, student group work, block scheduling, and teacher teaming.
Adolescent Psychology (EDP 5480) teaches basic concepts, research findings and problems regarding early adolescent and adolescent developmental needs as they apply to school and home environments; includes study of exceptional children and those with cultural differences.
Role of the Teacher in Guidance (CED 6700) is an introduction to guidance principles, techniques and roles, with stress on classroom applications. Experiential laboratory sessions are required to sensitize educators to the basic ideas and skills involved in being a helper. This course is primarily for school personnel other than counselors.
Practicum in Developmental Reading (RDG 6400) includes identifying and solving field problems in developmental reading, management of reading instruction, the importance of reading in the content areas. The section designed for MLE discusses working with middle level students and includes collaboration methods with students and their families.

Directed Teaching & Conference (TED 5780)- Directed teaching in schools at level for which students are preparing for certification. Includes regular conference in which teaching methods in various fields are explored. Field experience must be in grades 6-9, where students have an involvement in a middle level setting.
