Oral histories are stories that people relate based on experiences in their lives. Because memories die when people die, oral histories are important to obtain.
Oral histories can be used to obtain histories of war veterans, immigrant information, community development, etc. In addition, they are an excellent way to learn research, interview, and oral presentation skills.
The Oral History Society provides an excellent source of information on how to conduct oral histories.
Oral history information on war veterans, including oral history kits, can be found at Veterans History Project.
