Below are several scenarios which flow from possible issues in elementary school to high school.  They may be assigned to groups to do at one session or done one at a time as a class,  Discussion should be done by the students and after they have given their points of view, the teacher may then give his or hers.  All of this is done in a n atmosphere of we can agree to disagree.

  You and your group are a panel of judges who make up the Michigan Supreme Court for today.  You are to decide on the following case related to rules in the public schools.  You are to briefly explain (up to 2 minutes) why you made your decision.  A minority opinion (if necessary) will be allowed & has 1 minute to explain their view.

Should this rule stand?  There will be a prayer read in public school each morning.

    You and your group are a panel of judges who make up the Michigan Supreme Court for today.  You are to decide on the following case related to rules in the public schools.  You are to briefly explain (up to 2 minutes) why you made your decision.  A minority opinion (if necessary) will be allowed & has 1 minute to explain their view.
Should this rule stand?  All students will wear uniforms to school.

Should this law stand?  No books on divorce are allowed in the library.

Should this rule stand?  Reproductive health may not be taught in the middle grades.

Should this rule stand?   Same sex couples are not allowed to attend the prom.
