20th Century Genocide
Teacher Information

I just wanted to add
a few notes to my fellow professionals....
- This
WebQuest was originally created for a high school World History and
Geography class
- 7.1.3 Twentieth Century Genocide Use
various
sources
including
works
of
journalists,
journals,
oral
histories,
films,
interviews, and writings of participants to analyze
the causes and consequences of the genocides of Armenians, Romas
(Gypsies), and Jews, and the mass exterminations of Ukrainians and
Chinese.
- 7.2.3 World War II Analyze the
causes, course, characteristics, and immediate consequences of World
War II by explaining Nazi ideology, policies, and consequences of the
Holocaust (or Shoah).
- The idea
came from a genocide poster I ordered that can be found at Teacher's Discovery
- The Group
Contract was adapted from a Team Contract.
- Although
it did not occur in the 20th Century, the Native Americans could also
be included in this WebQuest
- I plan to
include a visual culminating activity with this WebQuest where the
class will pick a unit of measurement (example: one jelly bean =
20,000 deaths) so students can see the impact of each genocide
side-by-side
- A few
other ideas I considered before deciding on the "judgment" portion of
the quest included
- A
Creative Product: Students would be expected to design a memorial
dedicated to all victims of genocide
- A
Persuasive Task: Students would be expected to design a
presentation to be given to the directors of the U.S. Holocaust
Memorial Museum convincing them that a greater focus is needed on other
incidences of genocide in addition to the Holocaust
- An
Analytical Task: Students would be expected to compare and
contrast three incidences of genocide and then speculate on what the
differences and similarities mean
- These
resources helped me create the criteria for comparison found in Step
One
of the Process page
- Lastly,
that picture above looks nothing like me!!
