Karen M. Feathers is the coordinator of the Reading, Language and Literature program in the Division of Teacher Education. She is nationally known for her work in content literacy, reading comprehension, and staff development. Her book on content reading, Infotext: Reading and Learning is used internationally.

Her current research in reading focuses on the relationship between text structures and comprehension and evaluation of comprehension. She is also active in staff development as shown in her work in the L'Anse Creuse and Highland Park School Districts. In L'Anse Creuse she and Dr. Gerald Oglan facilitated an inquiry group of elementary teachers that developed a means of evaluating student learning in reading and writing from grades K-5. In Highland Park, Dr. Feathers is providing staff development in content literacy to teachers in grades 5-8 as part of a funded grant, and she provided intensive staff development during the Summer 1999 reading program in that district.
