A national imperative
The shocking reality is that American high school and college
students know precious little about how the American economic system
actually works and what they need to know to work successfully in it.
Fifty percent don't know what a federal deficit is. Sixty percent do
not
understand the purpose of profits. Seventy percent cannot identify the
most
widely used measure of inflation. Sixty percent think wages are set by
government
action.
The price of economic illiteracy is more than this country can afford: Young people unfamiliar with the basics of saving, investing, the uses of money and credit. Adults more likely to have money problems, career problems and credit problems, and less likely to make informed decisions as citizens and voters.
