Your teacher has assigned each team a political party.   Now you have the opportunity to meet your candidate, as well as the competition.

The following candidates (disclaimer) have thrown their hat into the ring.

REPUBLICAN      DEMOCRAT     LIBERTARIAN     GREEN      REFORM     CONSTITUTION

 

Republican Party (Incumbent)

Name: Liam Frisbee, Tennessee

Education: B.S. in Biology and B.A. in History from Tulane University, 1974; M.D. from Harvard Medical School, 1978

Personal Info: Born January 19, 1952 in Nashville, TN;  married to Kari Frisbee; 3 children, Presbyterian, Caucasian

Current Occupation: President of the United States

Past Employment: U.S. Senate Majority Leader (6years), 2 term Senator; Deputy State Director for Bush-Quale campaign, 1992; Cardiac Surgeon at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (15 years) and Director of Cardiology (8years)

Campaign Funding: The campaign's Finance Department projects that by the end of the campaign your candidate will have spent $367,000,000.    The majority of this money (75%) will have come from individual contributions, 20% will come from federal funding, and 1% will come from Political Action Committee contributions (PAC's).  The majority of the PAC contributions are from business groups.  

 

Democratic Party

Name: Ivan Ray, Indiana

Education: B.S. Business Economics, Indiana University, 1978; J.D. University of Virginia, 1981

Personal Info: Born July 4, 1951 in Shirkieville, Indiana; married to Sandy Ray; 2 children, Episcopalian, Caucasian

Current Occupation: U.S. Senator (2 term), Chair of Democratic Leadership Council

Past Employment: Governor of Indiana (2 terms), Secretary of State of Indiana (3 years); Attorney (4 years between elected offices); U.S. Army Veteran, Lt. Cornel in Vietnam (served from 1969-73)

Campaign Funding: The campaign's Finance Department projects that by the end of the campaign your candidate will have spent $327,000,000.    The majority of this money (70%) will have come from individual contributions, 20% will come from federal funding, and .5% will come from Political Action Committee contributions (PAC's).  The majority of the PAC contributions are from labor groups.  

 

Libertarian Party

Name: Richard Bandar, Texas

Education: B.S. Computer Science, Texas A&M University, 1977

Personal Info: Born June 1, 1954, not married, Agnostic, Caucasian

Current Occupation: Sky diving instructor; computer consultant

Past Employment: Nuclear power industry computer programmer (25years), 2 time Libertarian Party nominee for State Representative

Campaign Funding: The campaign's Finance Department projects that by the end of the campaign your candidate will have spent $1,005,000.    The vast majority of this money will have come from individual contributions with a small fraction of contributions coming from single-issue Political Action Committees (PAC's). 

 

 

Green Party

Name: Ani Ladkey, Mississippi

Education: B.A. History, Antioch University, 1972; J.D. Harvard Law School, 1976

Personal Info: Born March 16, 1952; widow; 3 children; member of Mississippi Band of Anishinaabeg (Ojibwe), religion not disclosed, Native-American

Current Occupation: Director of the environmental organization, Respect the Earth

Past Employment: Spent 20 years litigating land rights and issues on the White Earth Reservation; has authored numerous books dealing with Native American and environmental issues; former Vice Presidential nominee on Green Party ticket

Campaign Funding: The campaign's Finance Department projects that by the end of the campaign your candidate will have spent $500,000.    All of this money will be from individual contributions garnered through the campaign's fundraising efforts. 

 

 

Reform Party

Name: Charles Wader, Connecticut

Education: B.S. Business Administration, Princeton University, 1955;  J.D. Harvard Law School, 1958

Personal Info: Born in Winstead, Conn.; married to Margo Kelp-Wader, 2 children; religion undisclosed; African-American

Current Occupation: Consumer Activist

Past Employment: Five time Presidential nominee (as and Independent, Green Party, and currently Reform Party candidate); served in U.S. Army (1959 - 4 years), Professor of History, University of Hartford (3 years); freelance writer (8 years); founder of Public Government to investigate government corruption as well as many other non profit organizations

Campaign Funding: The campaign's Finance Department projects that by the end of the campaign your candidate will have spent $4,600,000.    The majority of this money will have come from individual contributions (55%), approximately 17% of this money will be through federal funding and the candidate himself plans to self finance 3% of the campaign.

 

 

Constitution Party

Name: Mike Baldwin, Maryland

Education: B.A. Political Science, Loyola University, 1975; J.D., University of Baltimore, 1981

Personal Info: Born April 9, 1952; married to Dana Baldwin; 3 children, Baptist; Caucasian

Current Occupation: State Chair of Constitution Party of Maryland; Private practice attorney

Past Employment: Attorney for U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (10 years); founder of non-profit organization, The Constitution Association

Campaign Funding: The campaign's Finance Department projects that by the end of the campaign your candidate will have spent $700,000.    The majority of this money will have come from the candidate's own pockets (63%), while 36% will be garnered from individual contributions and less than 1% will be from single issue Political Action Committee (PAC) support.
